I'm sitting here on a lazy Sunday afternoon watching some TV. Stumbled upon an ESPNU replay of the 2002 Auburn vs. Florida game. Watching it is just getting pumped for football season, as well as nostalgic over how good Rex Grossman used to be.
So, I decided no better time for my first post on here than now. Practices are starting up in Gainesville, and even with the loss of Tim Tebow, we're still as positive as ever. Despite the small amount of anger caused by getting dissed by Emmitt Smith, not getting a single mention in his HOF speech. But I digress.
The polls back up our feelings, giving us a #3 ranking despite losing one of the greatest senior classes in NCAA history, that includes our messiah (Tebow), our linebackers (The Brandons specifically), and our only reliable receivers (Riley Cooper and Aaron Hernandez). These players are replaced unproven, immature talent. Although, talent wins championships in the SEC.
Last year was an awesome season, but below the expectations we had set for us. Too many close games and not enough discipline and consistency were the main issues. After bringing in another great recruiting class, to go on top of the already talented players, maturity might be the only thing between us and the championship. The arrests and taking days or plays off might not be an issue for the first 4 games, but Urban Meyer better have these guys ready to play in Tuscaloosa. The Gators last game against the Tide was embarrassing enough, the last game @ their house was even more so.
That date is still 2 months away though, so in reality this next 2 months are the preseason. October 2nd, 8 PM is kickoff.
And I'll be right here along the way to offer insight, news, and predictions. Check back later for more posts, I'll try to have at least 2 a week, going in depth on certain positions or players. Follow me on Twitter (darthgator15) or right here on Yardbarker to get all the info.
As always, Go Gators! Darth Gator out.
