Chargers 2024 schedule release hilariously rips Travis Kelce, Taylor Swift for private jet use

If recent years have taught us anything, it’s that when the NFL schedule is released sometime in the middle of May each year, the Chargers’ social media team is going to find a way to steal the show when revealing LA’s schedule. Year after year, the folks who run the Chargers Twitter account find new and creative — and sometimes merciless — ways to take shots at their opponents, using references that sometimes only the most observant fans will catch.

This year, the Chargers turned the clocks back to 2004 — man, what a time to be alive — when The Sims  computer game was all the rage. And within this brilliantly constructed 3 minute, 20 second-long Sim-centric announcement video this year, nobody was safe… including America’s power couple, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce and music mega-star Taylor Swift, who found themselves in the line of fire starting at the 42-second mark.

Not only do the Chargers take a gentle jab the Kelce Brothers’ New Heights podcast — with a nod to a 13-year-old squirle squirrel related tweet from Travis Kelce’s social media past — but then they showed Kelce and Swift’s Sim avatars boarding Swift’s private jet, which was inexplicably parked right in the middle of the street. That seems like a tremendous safety hazard if you ask me. Of course, Taylor Swift has caught some heat for using her private jet so often during her 2023 Eras Tour, racking up 178,000 miles, according to Martha Ross of The Mercury News.

At least in this case, Taylor Swift wasn’t the only one who was being criticized. Cam Newton, Kevin James, Cleveland Browns fans, Kirk Cousins, and the Patriots dynasty were among the many, many others who were called out.

Travis Kelce vs. the Chargers

It makes sense that the Chargers social media team would take aim at Travis Kelce. Not only is Kelce the league’s best tight end and a lightning rod because of his relationship with Taylor Swift, but he’s also racked up a pretty impressive career resume against the Chargers, dating back to when the Bolts were still playing in San Diego.

According to StatMuse, in 18 career games against the Chargers, Kelce has tallied 100 receptions for 1,223 yards and 9 touchdowns. Over the last few years, Kelce’s output against the Chargers has gone up a level. In just his last six games against the Chiefs’ AFC West rival, Kelce has hauled in 49 catches for 730 yards and 8 touchdowns.

This season, assuming that the 34-year-old tight end can stay healthy, Kelce will likely pass Chargers legend Antonio Gates on the list of most receiving yards ever by a tight end in NFL history. As things stand right now, Tony Gonzalez and Jason Witten are the only two tight ends in league history who have more career receiving yards than Kelce or Gates.
